RACK NOT INCLUDED -- you will need to tell me what rack you intend to use. #1 question I get asked on these is what rack to use: LR3/LR4 Frontrunner rack works well, but will need to be cut down a bit.
So the factory roof rails are both rare, and not very good if you wish to use a full platform rack (such as a Front Runner or Rhino); you have to drill the rack + rails + shim it, as the rails are curved to match roof contour vs flat. Only aftermarket was Safety Designs, and (still) Voyager in the US, but that is old tech and both very expensive & hard to find. Pictures are of the first set produced, and there are some variables we can easily incorporate: different finishes this was semi-gloss powder coating, but matte would look better with FR racks... E can powder coat to (near) match factory finish as well but that is a substantial upcharge (black semi-gloss or matte included in price).
The one pictured has the rails 1" taller than "stock" allows for the carrying of a Front Runner table under FR's rack using their table carrying accessory (this gives about 3" of clearance at highest point of the roof). As these are built-to-order, if you wanted a lower profile the rails/feet can be fabricated down up to 2.25 if you wanted a low profile. Other options are minor things like the P38 logo can be deleted.Front of the rails have 2 mounting holes and two L brackets are included to allow for mounting a light bar or wind deflector. See my other listing if you just want a set of the plans to fabricate your own. Plans can be customized to your needs; you would need to have access to a CNC shop but any medium size city should have several.
These rails will work with some Thule or Yakima (or similar) racks that have a bottom channel that allows them to be mounted to the rails I would recommend a minimum of three cross bars for rigidity, however it does "wiggle" a bit using only three bars across & I really don't recommend it. With a platform rack, the entire system is incredibly solid---a RTT wouldn't be any issue at all, as the rails allow the rack to be fitted perfectly flat, and I've had almost 500lbs up there with zero issues. No cross bars or rack included. You will need to tell me what platform rack you are putting on your P38 as there are slight mounting differences between Rhino, Front Runner, etc. The rack shown is a slightly modified Front Runner LR3/LR4 rack--modification was the removal of 8 of length (about a 30 minute job with a hacksaw + metal file).
